Abstract Submissions Closed
WG10 Digital Sociology (host committee)
Language: English, Spanish and French
Session Type: Oral
This session explores how trust and distrust are created in contemporary digital societies, examining how digital technologies reshape social relationships, institutions, and public life. As interactions increasingly occur through online platforms, algorithmic systems, and data-driven infrastructures, questions of credibility, transparency, privacy, and accountability have become objects of interest to sociological research.
The session welcomes theoretical, empirical, and comparative contributions that investigate how trust or distrust is created in digital environments, not only regarding the reliability of technology but also how the use of technology restructures the way we trust.
By bringing together diverse perspectives from across the globe, the session aims to advance understanding of how trust and distrust are constructed, negotiated, and contested in an increasingly interconnected and digitally mediated world.
