Discussing Talcott Parsons’ Legacy: Applications, New Theoretical Syntheses, and Controversies

Abstract Submissions Closed

RC16 Sociological Theory (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

The last decade showed a striking increase of attention to the legacy of Talcott Parsons. Several monographs and edited volumes deal with a broad range of empirical and theoretical issues. The publication of hitherto unpublished works (Parsons and White 2016 and 2022) opens fresh perspectives on Parsons’ conception of modernity. This open session invites scholars to present new aspects and further developments of Parsons' work in empirical and theoretical terms, its value for the contemporary sociological discourse, as well as critical evaluations.
