We invite submissions for this session, "Children and Migration: Sociological Dimensions."

This session explores how children navigate migration not merely as children or minors, but as active social actors. We seek theoretical and empirical papers that apply sociological frameworks to the lived experiences of young migrants. We particularly welcome critical analyses that examine structural inequalities, state-sanctioned borders, and the intersectionality of age, gender, race, and legal status.

Some themes:

  • Agency and Socialization: Peer dynamics and identity negotiation within host societies.
  • Institutional Interactions: How schools, healthcare systems, and legal frameworks construct "the migrant child."
  • Transnational Families: The impact of migration on children, shifting generational roles, and remote parenting across borders.
  • Methodological Innovations: Ethical approaches to conducting reflexive, child-centric research in volatile migration contexts.
