RC44 Labor Movements (host committee)
Language: English
Session Type: Oral
This session looks at labour in the context of digital capitalism: How does the nature of digital capital as a coordinator of nodes and networks with a higher profit rate and higher net cash positions affect the labour relations in sectors such as software companies, e-commerce, and platform work? Which parts of the workforce are able to negotiate higher wages as in the recent 2026 conflict at Samsung, and which are not? Does digital capital come with a higher wage inequality of different parts of the workforce, and do we see a general upgrading, differentiating digital capitalism from the rest of the economy, or is their rather convergence with other sectors? Which parts of digital workforces are conflict-prone and which are not and how does this vary across geographical regions?
