RC08 History of Sociology (host committee)
Language: English
Session Type: Oral
As a scholarly community we have become well versed in the history of sociology, its institutional emergence in multiple national contexts and across vastly different historical periods; yet far less has been said about the "travelling" of sociological knowledge across different social sectors. Papers in this session will draw from empirical or theoretical studies to offer insights (a) from historical cases where sociological knowledge has appeared (or not appeared, despite expectations) in social spaces outside the academy, perhaps in social policy or legislation, or an area of social practice such as engineering or clinical practice; (b) about the movement of sociological knowledge into/or from, other disciplines across time or space; or (c) into the operation of the social processes through which sociological knowledge has, or could "travel".
