Aging forever? The future of aging societies

This proposed symposium addresses the future of today's aging societies. It pivots around the centenary of Maynard Keynes' 1928 essay of an imagined future for his grandchildren, where the need for labour declines and lifestyles are shaped more as an aesthetic than as an ethic. Will the year 2050 see an aging society sustained, with no or slow growth and no loss of productivity? As more of the population live for a hundred years, and birthrates stabilise or even fall, will such scenarios come to define most of the world's larger economies? Papers will be selected that balance utopian and dystopian viewpoints, drawing upon global regional or local scenarios.
