RC46 Clinical Sociology (host committee)
Language: English
Session Type: Oral
Contemporary societies are increasingly shaped by multiple forms of turbulence, including economic uncertainty, demographic transitions, political instability, public health crises, technological change, environmental challenges, and widening social inequalities. These transformations often disproportionately affect persons with disabilities, who continue to face barriers to participation, accessibility, representation, and self-determination. Clinical sociology offers a distinctive approach that moves beyond understanding social problems to developing interventions, strengthening advocacy, informing policy as well as fostering social change. This session invites theoretical, empirical, methodological, and practice-based contributions that examine how clinical sociologists engage with disability issues in diverse social and cultural contexts.
Topics may include disability-inclusive policies and services, healthcare and social care, education, employment, independent living, community-based interventions, advocacy, accessibility, disability rights, participatory research, intersectionality, social innovation, and the evaluation of programmes designed to promote inclusion and well-being. Papers that explore how disability communities navigate and respond to contemporary social turbulence are particularly encouraged.
