RC54 The Body in the Social Sciences (host committee)
Language: English
Session Type: Oral
This Open session aims to explore how war is mediated through political narratives and regimes of visibility. Rather than simply documenting conflict, visual and discursive practices participate in the political ordering of life and death, shaping whose suffering becomes visible, whose bodies are protected, and whose lives remain disposable.
We welcome contributions addressing war imagery, border regimes, forced mobility, surveillance, militarization, and the governance of bodies under conditions of conflict and displacement. For instance, focusing on how borders are experienced, negotiated, or contested across different settings, particularly on the role of visual and discursive practices in shaping and legitimizing contemporary experiences of war, territorial crossing, and insecurity.
