RC32 Women, Gender, and Society (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

Across diverse political and cultural contexts, knowledge about women and gender has become a central terrain of political and epistemic struggle. Feminist scholars and activists continue to challenge the hierarchies through which women have historically been represented and governed, while anti-gender mobilizations, democratic erosion, military conflicts and digital disinformation increasingly contest the legitimacy of feminist and critical forms of knowledge. Modernity and relationalities “one-world world” narratives, alongside these transformations, raise urgent questions about epistemic authority, public expertise, and the changing conditions under which knowledge about gender is produced and legitimized on a global scale.

This session explores the politics of gendered knowledge production across academic, political, legal, media, and digital arenas, through a deconstructive and interdependent approach. We invite contributions examining how feminist knowledge is constructed, institutionalized, circulated, and contested, as well as how different groups and relations produce alternative epistemologies grounded in lived experience, resistance, and social struggle. Particular attention will be given to feminist, decolonial, postcolonial, subaltern, and post-Western approaches that challenge androcentric, colonial, and Eurocentric assumptions embedded in dominant knowledge systems. We welcome contributions examining situated knowledges, alternative epistemologies, and relational ways of understanding gender, power, and social transformation across diverse global contexts.

The session aims to contribute to dialogues within global sociology by advancing comparative and critically reflexive perspectives on gendered knowledge production across diverse world contexts.
