Language: English, French and Spanish

Session Type: Oral

Emotions play a significant role in the current process of trasnglobalisation, which presents a number of challenges for the social sciences and the sociology of emotions. The commodification of feelings and the redefining of the ways of doing sociology of emotions, political economy of morality are structuring the virtual, mobile, and digital world, which implies changes in the many emotional ecologies and geocultures of senses

In this framework, the session aims to bring together academics from Latin America and China who can discuss the development of the sociology of emotions in their respective geo-cultural contexts. The general objective is to establish a space for exchange that enables understanding of the overall state of emotions in China and Latin America.

To this end, submissions are invited that offer a critical and synthetic account of the diverse perspectives within the sociology of emotions, particularly as they have developed in specific geographical, cultural, and historical contexts. Contributions may examine how emotional practices, politics of sensibilities, affective regimes, and sensory geocultures are being transformed by the current process of transglobalisation, as well as how these transformations reshape everyday life, collective action, institutional arrangements, and forms of subjectivity. The session welcomes works that address these issues from theoretical, epistemological, methodological, or empirical standpoints, including comparative approaches and studies that synthesise concrete research experiences from Latin America and China.
