RC52 Sociology of Professional Groups (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

Professionals play a key role in our world. This session focuses on two broadly related themes: 1) how professional identity, culture, tradition, or related objects and technologies are socially constructed and enacted in a professional field or an organizational context; 2) how these factors and the broad structure or characteristics of a professional field affect organizational practices, individual behaviors, or well-being. For example, the second theme may include, but is not limited to, the research on how professional identity, culture, and tradition affect occupational work, technology adoption, occupational hazard, health, or well-being among professionals. We welcome studies adopting various research methods, of white-collar or blue-collar workers, at different levels (e.g., organizational or individual levels), across national and institutional contexts, or through a comparative lens.
