Language: English

Session Type: Oral

This organized open session examines the design and implementation of effective public policies that advance sustainable development, with a focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As governments and institutions worldwide confront persistent challenges (deep-rooted poverty, widening gender disparities, accelerating climate change, increased incidence and intensity of armed conflict) , the need for evidence‑based, interdisciplinary policy frameworks has never been more urgent. This session brings together scholars whose research explores how economic incentives, behavioral insights, and social programs can be strategically deployed to progress toward several SDGs.

Presenters will investigate how behavioral economics can inform the creation of policies that encourage individuals, firms, and communities to adopt environmentally responsible practices. Complementing this economic perspective, the session also features research on social policies aimed at reducing poverty and advancing gender equality. A central theme across the presentations is the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental objectives. The session emphasizes that sustainable development requires integrated policy approaches that recognize the mutual reinforcement of gender equity, poverty alleviation, and climate resilience. The session provides a platform for advancing scholarly understanding of sustainable development policy and for identifying practical pathways that support a more sustainable global future.
