RC58 Society and Emotions (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

As a discipline that only emerged in the last half century, the sociology of emotions has gone in different directions over the years. Yet, as the world experiences dramatic social and cultural shifts, leading to even more intense political polarization, more attention should be directed towards understanding not only the emotional dynamics behinds such processes, but how race and emotions intersect as targets and motivations behind such processes. This panel aims to bring together four scholars who explore how racialized emotions factor into politics, from historical precedents, to the present.
