RC37 Sociology of Arts (host committee)

Language: English, French and Spanish

Session Type: Oral

In an era marked by rising polarization and the proliferation of hate speech, art emerges not only as a tool for aesthetic expression but as a vital mechanism for social repair. This panel examines how community-based artistic practices function as direct responses to intolerance and hostility. Drawing from the sociology of art, we explore how collective creativity fosters empathy, dismantles discriminatory narratives, and rebuilds fragmented social tissues. By analyzing diverse cultural initiatives, this session highlights the capacity of art to transform spaces of exclusion into sites of solidarity, offering tangible cultural solutions to the challenges of our current social climate.
