Exploring Spatial Dimension of Risk

Abstract Submissions Closed

WG04 Sociology of Risk and Uncertainty (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

This session invites papers presenting empirical studies and methodological innovations related to the spatial dimension of risk. Spatial analysis of risk and risk perception in sociological research covers a broad range of topics, including but not limited to the environmental, technological, geopolitical, criminological and else. We invite submissions to discuss a variety of questions related to methodologies and empirical findings in risk and space research.

For example, how are global risks spatially localised and contextualised in risk perceptions? How does proximity to disaster and conflict areas determine the level of concern? How do public perceptions of spatial boundaries of risks coincide with the realities of hazards? What are the variabilities of spatial vulnerabilities and risk perceptions for different types of risks and crises?
