Religious Change Worldwide - What International Surveys Tell Us

Abstract Submissions Closed

RC22 Sociology of Religion (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

This session asks what we can learn about current religious change around the world from international surveys such as WVS, ISSP, ESS, Pew surveys, the different Barometers, as well as national surveys. Both descriptive and hypothesis-driven approaches are welcome. It is interesting to chart trends of religiosity, spirituality, or magic across time. It is just as interesting to relate such changes to possible causes such as economic development, value change, or increase in education. One of the questions of interest across presentations might be whether we indeed see an overall secular transition around the world or whether different world regions evolve differently.
