Abstract Submissions Closed
RC54 The Body in the Social Sciences (host committee)
Language: English, French and Spanish
Session Type: Oral
This session celebrates recent contributions to the Sociology of the Body and Embodiment through a dialogue centred on newly published books by members of RC54 and scholars working in related fields. Rather than conventional paper presentations, the session offers an opportunity for authors to introduce key ideas from their recent work and engage in open conversation with invited commentators and the audience. The selected books may address diverse themes, including embodiment, emotions, health, identities, technologies, care and well-being, inequalities, relationality, and human and more-than-human worlds. Bringing these contributions into dialogue, the session reflects on the ways body studies help us understand and respond to the challenges of living in turbulent times. By creating a space for exchange rather than a sequence of presentations, the session aims to foster intellectual dialogue, strengthen connections within and beyond RC54, and showcase emerging directions in contemporary body scholarship.
