Time, Events, and the Historical Sociology of Violence

Abstract Submissions Closed

WG11 Violence and Society (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

This session seeks to gather papers that show how considerations of time, historical sequencing, and events can help us develop a better theoretical understanding of violence in different times and places. The panel also aims to develop and enhance new approaches within historical sociology, including post-positivist and relational analyses of violence, broadly defined. Rather than treating violence as derivative of underlying social relations, we seek to bring violence as an analytical category into relief within historical trajectories.
