Language: English

Session Type: Oral

In a globally connected world social diversity raises questions on the recognition of entitlements in the context of the politics of resource distribution. Within this context, increasing social contestation, exclusionary practices, resurgent nationalism, moral panics on immigration and xenophobia highlight debates on power, belonging, inclusion and citizenship within society. This session invites papers on pedagogical practices within the classroom to create safe spaces amongst an often increasingly diverse cohort of students in which contentious issues can be debated, and both structural power relations and inequality within society can be interrogated, with the aim of fostering inclusiveness and social justice in society.
