RC35 Conceptual and Terminological Analysis (host committee)

Language: English, French and Spanish

Session Type: Oral

Researchers have been critiquing Eurocentric knowledge for more than a century, and recent decades have seen important analyses of the power structures and inequalities of global academia that are responsible for this coloniality of knowledge, and increased calls for autonomous knowledge production for the Global South. However, there is a lack of work that calls for how specifically Global Academia should be changed, and how institutions, systems, structures, and processes such as global university and journal ranking systems, the global journal landscape, peer review, conference organization, funding allocations, etc. should be restructured (or eliminated) to obtain a truly hierarchy-free global knowledge production landscape, where the Global Majority and the Souths in the South are centered and listened to carefully. This session welcomes work that makes specific suggestions for changes that would dismantle problematic power structures. Presentations are welcome that are mindful of global, regional, and national power structures, hierarchies and exclusion mechanisms.
