WG04 Sociology of Risk and Uncertainty (host committee)
Language: English
Session Type: Oral
Risk and crisis communication have become central sociological concerns in turbulent times marked by cascading crises, uncertainty, polarization and declining institutional trust. This session invites papers examining how risks and crises are communicated, interpreted, contested and acted upon across different social, political, cultural and media contexts. We welcome theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions on diverse emergencies, disasters, conflicts, technological risks, misinformation, public preparedness, institutional communication, community engagement and vulnerable groups. The session aims to advance sociological understanding of communication as a key process through which societies make sense of risk and uncertainty and organize collective responses to crises.
