RC52 Sociology of Professional Groups (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

Traditional understanding of professional knowledge in the sociology of professions is that it is esoteric and as such, it should transcend cultural boundaries. Hence, professional workers who possess internationally recognized forms of capital should be able to maximize their economic circumstances and earning potential as migrant workers within a globalizing market. Indeed, the increased pace and impermanency of their mobility, the growth in the number of participating countries welcoming them, and the growing politicization of its impact are transforming not only the lives of the internationally mobile professional workers, but the overall composition of the professional workforce and the context within which they work. This panel will address these new and evolving dynamics across a range of professional workers.
