Sociology In Motion: National Trajectories and the Social Conditions of Sociological Knowledge

Abstract Submissions Closed

RC08 History of Sociology (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

Sociology not only analyzes how inequalities, institutions, and democracy are shaped and reshaped by societal forces. It is itself embedded in historical transformations that shape its conceptual categories, institutions, and intellectual agendas. This session asks whether, and to what extent, national trajectories of sociology across diverse world regions have been shaped in comparable ways by the rise, expansion, and transformation of global capitalism. We welcome theoretical, historical, and comparative contributions that examine how sociological concepts and traditions have developed in relation to changing capitalist, institutional, and political conditions.
