RC26's Open Session: Global and Local Conflicts, New Actors and Social Change In Turbulent Times (Session 1)

Abstract Submissions Closed

RC26 Sociotechnics, Sociological Practice (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

This multi-thematic RC26 Open Session brings together sociologists exploring the broad landscape of contemporary social life and its complexity through the lens of global or local analysis. As societies across the globe navigate a time of overlapping turbulent periods and rapid multidimensional change, the participants of the session will discuss how conflicts in various spheres arise, how new social actors emerge and interact, and how multifaceted social transformation unfolds — across global and local scales and in close interplay with current social phenomena.

The session primarily welcomes works that cross disciplinary boundaries or address research areas beyond RC26's other more focused thematic sessions. We especially encourage contributions connected to one or more of our priority thematic directions:

1. Sociotechnics;
2. Sociological practice and applied sociology;
3. Political sociology;
4. Gender studies;
5. Social inequalities and inclusion;
6. Human rights and social justice;
7. Public sociology;
8. Media and communication;
9. Social economy and entrepreneurship;
10. Migration and mobilities;
11. Globalization;
12. Local communities and community development;
13. Rural sociology and counter-urbanization;
14. Environmental sociology and sustainability;
