Language: English
Session Type: Oral
As invasive social media and artificial intelligence (AI) begin to pervade our lives, what are the emerging impacts on gender hierarchy? We know about violence, including enhanced trolling, widespread circulation of dehumanizing discourse, re-inscription of gendered assumptions into “neutral” job practices such as hires, assessments and promotions, and, we have begun to document the politics of weaponized language that appear to be rolling back years of effort to dismantle gender/ intersectional hierarchies.
This session calls for papers that reflect on what is happening on the ground as new technologies pervade our lives. We welcome papers that offer theoretical interventions, reflections on methodologies to accommodate new technologies that remake social realities, as well as papers that analyze the impact of invasive social media and AI on gender/intersectional hierarchies in different locales.
