In the post-Cold War era, many societies in the world have been transformed by neoliberalism. Defined as a mode of ruling practiced in the 21st century, neoliberalism has turned business enterprise and the market as the models of organizing not only the economy, but also politics and individual lives in daily practices. This transformation drastically undermined public spaces and resources, which are replace by individual choices through purchasing and consuming commodities. This change has lasting implications for conscription that are still maintained in many countries in the world. This panel invites scholars who examine impacts of neoliberal transformation on conscription in general and how such impacts are interwoven with the politics of gender and sexuality.
