In contemporary societies, a standard seven-day week has five days devoted to labor and numerous individuals spend over 40 years of their lives working. In this context, employment, job characteristics, and transitions from work to retirement or other labor force statuses deserve special attention as social determinants of healthy aging processes.
This session invites papers that analyze the health effects of late-life work, job characteristics, retirement, and other labor force transitions in old age. Priority will be given to papers using empirical data, but at the same time making a clear contribution to theory, policy, or practice.
