In this talk, I ask how does scale complicate our intersectional research on nations, race, and gender? And what intersectional methodological tools can we use to be attentive to scale? While intersectional methods and analyses take into account the various simultaneous ways that certain populations are dispossessed and oppressed, I argue that to get a more nuanced analysis means to have to contend more seriously with issues of shifting notions of scale. That is, we must pay attention and name what scale we are looking at (nation, state, city, region, to name a few) to determine what intersectional methodologies to use.
