There is a paucity of research that has explored what Indigenous Australian youth’s financial aspirations, knowledges and experiences of financial literacy and wellbeing are from the perspectives of Indigenous youth. Economic participation and governance are critical for Indigenous youth to be able to exercise independence and agency and achieve individual and community goals and aspirations. Despite the importance of financial wellbeing, experiences of financial stress and financial insecurity are common for half of the Indigenous Australian population. Thus, with over 50% of the Indigenous Australian population being under the age of 25 years, Indigenous Australian youth’s voices, experiences and aspirations are critical. This research study aims to fill this knowledge gap and will inform future policies, research, practice, and programs to ensure they are better tailored to suit the wellbeing needs and financial aspirations of Indigenous youth. This presentation will provide an insight into the voices and experiences of Indigenous Australian youth and theoretically will explore Indigenous standpoint theory to centre Indigenous youth's financial wellbeing, literacy and aspirations.
