This abstract explores the dual processes of adaptation and resistance faced by refugees from the Global South, particularly focusing on Syrian refugees navigating the higher education landscape in German universities. As these individuals seek academic opportunities, they encounter not only the challenges of acclimating to a new educational and cultural environment but also the systemic racism and structural inequities prevalent within these institutions.
Through real-life narratives, this session highlights the experiences of Syrian refugees in Germany, documenting their struggles and triumphs. These narratives reveal how individuals and groups advocate for change within their communities and empower themselves to overcome systemic and cultural barriers.
This session contributes to a deeper understanding of the intersectionality of migration, education, and social justice, emphasizing the need for systemic change within higher education institutions.
