This article analyses the life story of a single migrant woman in the city of Lleida and provides a thick description of her migration narrative and post-migration experience. It depicts her struggle for a better life since she left her home country in search of a better socio-economic status to support her family. Like many other migrants, she had the dream of changing her reality through hard work and other opportunities that the new country offers. But upon arriving in Lleida, she was exposed to the harsh reality of the host society as the culture and social barriers were a major challenge in her assimilation. In the article, the author describes her first cultural shock that manifested in language problems, unfamiliarity with customs, and challenges with practical life in a different country. This element of disorientation was made worse by the economic difficulties she encountered, such as high unemployment, low wages, poor working conditions, and unemployment, which were contrary to her expectations.
Finally, it is also important to note that the woman’s narrative also reveals some of the psychological effects of migration, such as loneliness, homesickness, and anger at not being able to find a job. Lack of support from friends and family affected her in the sense that she could not easily adapt to the environment, and she had moments of doubt and even homesickness.
The article reveals her strength and the desire to move forward and work despite all the obstacles. Gradually, she established relationships with other people in the community and other migrants which helped her to regain the trust in herself and feel that she belongs to the society. Her story encapsulates the duality of migration: the dream of a happier life is closely connected with the challenges of adapting to a new reality.
