Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) is increasingly being posited as a solution to Islamophobia and racism in higher education. On the one hand EDI does offer some benefits for racially minoritized people in attempting to create inclusive spaces or attempting to incorporate more faculty of racially minoritized backgrounds into the institution. However, I want to problematise this solution and think about how EDI is also complicit in Islamophobia in HE and campuses. So, I want to think about higher education, and how in an era characterised by multiculturalism and EDI, Islamophobia has continued to grow. In particular, I want to focus on how liberal EDI agendas have been complicit in institutionalising Islamophobia, in the way that they have been used to make the case for a disciplining of the intolerant Muslim presence on campus.
