The text addresses the relationship between affirmative action policies and the production of knowledge, aiming to achieve two objectives: i) deepen the understanding of the intersectional approach in ethnic-racial studies, using Brazilian and international literature; ii) systematize the uses of the intersectional approach in theses defended in graduate programs in sociology. Although some studies have already addressed the subject, a gap still persists when it comes to analyzing the relationship between the public debate on black feminism and intersectionality, and scholarship in the field of ethnic-racial relations studies, after the adoption of affirmative action policies in Brazilian higher education (2013-2023). The research will contribute to deepening knowledge about the field of studies of ethnic-racial relations, with a focus on Brazilian social sciences/sociology, systematizing the distinct uses of the concept of intersectionality, identifying the main themes, concepts, theories, research designs and results, in addition to giving visibility to the academic and intellectual trajectories of authors of the academic production analyzed.
