This proposal seeks to discuss the dynamics of the production of peripheral space in Brazil in what has come to be known as self-urbanization - a process in which the residents themselves are responsible for the investment and production of the houses and neighbourhoods in which they live, without the direct participation of public authorities. To this end, we present the results of an ethnographic study carried out in a favela in the South Zone of the city of São Paulo. We started from the Lefebvrian principle of the violence of urbanization, which made it possible to observe changes in the constellation of actors that make up the dynamics of the production of urban space on the outskirts of São Paulo. These changes are reflected in the role played by architecture and urbanism technical assistances - groups made up mainly of architects and urban planners who work to support residents of occupations, favelas and peripheral neighbourhoods in their search for housing improvements, housing provision and urban improvements - in addition to the work of local housing associations, illegal markets, parliamentarians, non-governmental organizations and university research and extension centers - both national and international, with concrete implications for the space produced. In this process, forms of precariousness and power relations are remodeled, (re)producing and rearranging the dynamics of governing these populations.
