TG04 Sociology of Risk and Uncertainty (host committee) Language: English
This session invites papers presenting empirical studies and methodological innovations related to the spatial dimension of risk perception and spatial vulnerabilities. Spatial analysis of risk perception in sociological research covers a broad range of topics, including but not limited to environmental, technological, geopolitical, criminological and else. Spatial vulnerability refers to the susceptibility of specific geographic areas to harm from various hazards due to their physical, social, economic, and environmental characteristics.
We invite submissions to discuss variety of questions, related to spatial determinants of risk perceptions and social vulnerabilities.
For example: How global risks are spatially localized and contextualized in risk perceptions? How proximity to disaster and conflict areas determines the level of concern? How public perceptions of spatial boundaries of risks coincide with realities of hazards? What are the variabilities of spatial vulnerabilities and risk perceptions for different types of risks and crises?
