Intersectional Inequalities in Education

Friday, 11 July 2025: 09:00-10:45
Location: SJES008 (Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences (JES))
RC28 Social Stratification (host committee)

Language: English

The session seeks papers addressing the multifaceted nature of intersectional inequalities in education. Intersectional inequalities refer to the compounded disadvantages faced by students at the intersections of various social categories, such as socioeconomic status, gender, ethnicity, disability, and special educational needs. These intersecting factors can significantly influence students' academic achievements, including test scores, grades, and qualifications, as well as broader developmental outcomes like cognitive and socioemotional development. Intersectional inequalities may stem from a complex interplay of structural, institutional, and individual factors.
