This session brings together sociologists to explore the critical intersections of bodies, justice, with regard to the impacts of resonance and social energies that characterize the Anthropocene Era. As human activities reshape the planet, the concept of the Anthropocene urges us to reconsider the impacts on both the environment and social structures. This session examines how bodily experiences under the perspective of resonance (theory) and social energies (Rosa 2019) influence our understanding and pursuit of justice. Key themes will include various forms of justice relevant to the Anthropocene, such as environmental, legal, transitional, land, water, interspecies, racial, ethnic, and gender justice. We will explore how these dimensions of justice are interconnected through the lived experiences of bodies and the impacts of social and environmental forces.

Contributors should engage with the idea of resonance, considering how social energies – such as movements, cultural shifts, and collective actions – affect bodily experiences and perceptions of justice (Wetzel 2025). By focusing on the body as a site of both impact and resistance, we will investigate how social energies shape and are shaped by justice efforts in the Anthropocene.

Interdisciplinary theoretical approaches and case studies are welcome, so the session will be able to deepen our understanding of justice in this transformative era. We will highlight the need for inclusive and holistic approaches that consider the intricate interplay between bodies, social energies, and environmental changes. The session seeks to inspire new research, enhancing our collective capacity to live justly and sustainably in the Anthropocene.
