Citizen Science and Participatory Action Research for Social Transformation

In this session we look forward the sociological analysis of experiences of citizen-science within a systemic and reflective perspective. Citizen science, is a collaborative process where volunteers partner with scientists to conduct and develop research. We look to discuss how such processes lead to group and community empowerment. Particularly attention is given to the challenges and dilemmas at a methodological level as citizen-science is principally inter and transdisciplinary, engaging different levels of practical and theoretical knowledge, scientific debate co-desing and co-decision.

Models, cases, good practices or ongoing process that promote the debates in the following topics are welcome:

  1. Enhanced Data Collection and Collective Analysis
  2. Knowing Justice" and data-driven decisions
  3. Fostering Public Engagement in citizen social science
  4. Scientific literacy and social empowerment
  5. Catalyzing social Innovation with scientific frameworks
  6. Facilitating Transparency and Trust in Science
  7. Inclusivity in Knowledge Production
  8. Ethical Considerations in Citizen Science
  9. Citizen science in Socio-Environmental and risk management
  10. Second order Cybernetic in Citizen Science

By aligning citizen science with the principles of "Knowing Justice" in the Anthropocene, we can ensure that scientific advancements contribute to a more equitable, informed, and resilient society. Embracing and investing in citizen science is not only a strategic move for advancing scientific knowledge but also a vital step towards achieving justice and sustainability in the face of global change.

Papers welcome in English, French, Spanish. They require handout support in order to facilitate the understanding of the contents among participants.
