Within the last decade Actor-Network Theory (ANT) has received increasing attention but was mainly applied to phenomena in “Western” societies. The paper starts with a revision of the view studies that applied ANT assumptions to human-nonhuman relations in non-western contexts. Through a critical discussion we try to probe ANTs compatibility with large-scale socio-political claims implicit in modernity theory.
