The paper focuses on responses to recent Van earthquakes in the media: The case study of national newspapers and TV programmes following 6 weeks of the earthquake

The followups of the disasters in written materials and visual records can be important tools for tracing the processes for awarenes, constructive and deconstructive porposes in the disaster phases. There are ongoing arguments on the values of such studies. Most recent questions following Japan’s recent experience are how exactly do disasters lead to social changes, how far they differ and why?

However, present study questions differing responses to Van earthquakes in selected 6 national newspapers and disaster focused, selected national TV programes in followin 6 weeks of the post-disaster phase. Study will be tracing awarenes levels and reflections of the different occupational groups to the disaster. The backgrounds of appearing reflections will be taken into account during evaluations in the context of  local, national and international experiences.

The discusions will be basing on several variables such as distance and coverage of the issue, approaches and types of the presented knowledge.
