Abstract

The paper is part of the research project and thesis that is being developed to obtain the degree of PhD in Pedagogy in the National Autonomous University of Mexico, entitled: Professional ethics in teaching and scientific research from the perspective of the graduate professors from the Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla (UIA), in Mexico. We will present the results obtained with regard to the question: “From your experience, what challenges the Mexican society present to the professors in relation to the preparation of graduate students?”. The question was applied to nine coordinators of all the graduate programs: Design and Architecture, Health Sciences, Science and Engineering, Humanities, Environment, Business and Social Sciences. The main challenge according to the program coordinators is to offer an integral formation with two focus: Pragmatic - utilitarian and Humanist. They considered that both are important to promote social compromise. The increase of graduate students, specifically in the Master of Arts level, the economic profits and marketing of professional work has presented a challenge to prepare them in an integral way. This goal can be achieved by promoting values and a democratic point of view in the classroom and in the university. According to the program coordinators, the students will acquire this social compromise in their research projects that are part of the requirements to obtain the degree of Master of Arts.
