Building the Knowledge Society through Digital India Programme

Modern nations develop their society as ‘knowledge society’ through promotion of various uses of science and technology. Information and communication technologies play an important role on expanding the horizon of knowledge society. India is one of the major countries in BRICS nations where the government has focused on the digitalization programme at various levels of governance. The industry, education, health and service sectors in India are using digital technologies to enhance its reach to masses and through these new technologies a knowledge society has been created. The present paper is examining the strength and weakness of Government of India’s “Digital India” programme and will try to sketch out the role of digital India programme in creation of knowledge society in modern India.
