Constructing and Synthesising Indicators in the Era of Big Data. Part I

Tuesday, 12 July 2016: 09:00-10:30
Location: Hörsaal 12 (Juridicum)
RC55 Social Indicators (host committee)

Language: English

In recent years, the methodology aimed at constructing synthetic and complex indicators developed considerably by adopting advanced application of multivariate analysis. In particular, starting from the classical theory of composite indicators, many interesting approaches have been developed to overcome the weaknesses of composites. At the same time, the availability of new sources of data (e.g., big data) even though it highlights new perspectives in describing complex human and social phenomena, introduces new issues to be faced in constructing indicators. The session focuses on developments in synthesizing indicators and, more generally, in quantifying complex phenomena in the era of big data.
