A survey of individual military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine regarding topical issues of social protection of servicemen and their family members under the conditions of the legal regime of martial law was conducted from September 11 to 16, 2023. The collection of primary sociological information was carried out by self-completion of a specially developed questionnaire (paper form), prepared by representatives of the Scientific Research Center for Humanitarian Problems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Questionnaires were filled out in the presence of survey organizers (interviewers) and collected immediately after they were filled. A total of 443 servicemen of various categories were involved in the survey.
The questionnaire included, among other things, the method of measuring psychological distress on 31 indicators, which was prepared by specialists of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for a nationwide survey and, as part of cooperation, was provided to the Scientific Research Center for Humanitarian Problems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for use in military sociological research.
The conducted analysis made it possible to identify four factors that have a significant impact on the expressiveness of psychological distress among military personnel:
- level of satisfaction with psychological and medical-psychological rehabilitation;
- experience of encountering violations during appointment to positions, transfer, dismissal from service;
- experience of encountering queues in medical institutions;
- experience of encountering non-statutory relationships.
The study also made it possible to find out some aspects of the negative impact of psychological distress on the moral and psychological resilience of the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - assessments of their own fighting (morale) spirit and [dis]agreement with the fact that the servicemen of their own unit are confident in their strength and ability to perform tasks by appointment.
