Free food distribution in India and the mass movement against it: a sociological perspective
Abstract : This essay looks at India's free grain distribution policy and the mass protests against it from a sociological point of view। Initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana aim to help the poor and vulnerable sections of the society who are struggling with food insecurity। Nevertheless, the implementation of this policy has encountered a number of difficulties, including distribution corruption, political interference, and issues such as poor assistance to beneficiaries। Many places saw public discontent and agitation as a result of these challenges।
This essay mainly uses conflict theory, which helps us understand how power, resources, and exploitation of the weaker parts are unevenly distributed। Conflict theory states that those in power, which include governments and political institutions, use these policies for political gain, while the underprivileged and marginalized groups are deprived of them, which leads to agitation।
The research results clearly show that the implementation and failure of the free grain distribution scheme not only highlight social and economic inequality, but also show a deep disagreement between policy and society। This study helps us understand that when government policies fail to reach the weaker sections of society, it causes social discontent and protest।
