“E-commerce as a Catalyst for Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment:
Facilitating Financial Independence and Entrepreneurship”
Increasingly, e-commerce is perceived as a powerful tool for empowering rural women
by enabling them to gain financial independence and become entrepreneurs. The
purpose of this paper is to show how e-commerce platforms provide rural women with
direct access to larger markets for their handmade goods, textiles, and agricultural
products, without involving intermediaries. This allows women to maximize profits and
have more control over their business operations.
In this study, we examine key factors that facilitate rural women’s adoption of e-
commerce, including digital literacy programs, mobile payment solutions, and
government initiatives aimed at promoting women’s entrepreneurship. It also addresses
the challenges rural women face, such as limited internet access, socio-cultural
constraints, and inadequate digital skills, which hinder full participation in the e-
commerce ecosystem.
Studying case studies and survey data from regions where online retail platforms have
been successfully integrated, this research examines the economic impacts e-
commerce platforms have on rural women’s income levels, business sustainability, and
community development. To enhance the participation of women in e-commerce in rural
areas and narrow gender-based economic disparities, the paper suggests policy
recommendations and scalable solutions. Using e-commerce as a method to empower
rural women’s economic empowerment, this study aims to provide long-term financial
resilience for rural women through entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education.
