Gender Disparities and Work in Traditional and New Forms of Employment

Tuesday, 8 July 2025: 19:00-20:30
Location: ASJE020 (Annex of the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences)
RC30 Sociology of Work (host committee)

Language: English, French and Spanish

The session aims to address the issues of gender disparity and inequality in traditional and emerging forms of employment. Despite long-standing efforts by international organizations and national governments to promote social justice for women and those with family responsibilities, research and practice have shown that the issue remains relevant, regardless of a country's level of socio-economic development or the participation of women in the workforce. Despite the increasing digitalization and platformization of society and the workplace, assumptions that improved working conditions and increased access to employment would lead to improved status for women are not always supported by evidence. The session will present findings from specific empirical studies on women's employment conditions in different socio-economic settings, including the platform economy.
