Globalization is a process which affects simultaneously both the developed and developing societies in a variety of ways. As a structural process it is transforming the occupational structure of most societies. Transnational flow of people, commodities, ideas and activities has important repercussions for various professions in each and every society. This has also affected the professions and professionals in various ways, particularly the structure and functioning of the existing professions. The dynamic multidimensional process of globalization has also created a class of new professions.
Thus, it poses a conceptual and methodological challenge for sociologists to understand and analyse these pertaining issues related to professions in global as well as local perspectives emerging in global sociology in the past two decades. The session would be focused on these issues in order to explore a global sociology of professions.
