Sensibilities in Women: Experiencies of Mothers, Workers and Wifes

Wednesday, 9 July 2025: 11:00-12:45
Location: SJES022 (Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences (JES))
WG08 Society and Emotions (host committee)

Language: English and Spanish

We can identify at least two current phenomena that have women as protagonists. On the one hand, the drop in the fertility rate and the reduction in the size of households and, on the other, the presence of women in the world-of-work that persists, diversifies and intensifies.

From a sociological perspective that focuses on emotions as an intrinsic component of practices of agents located in space/time, we assume that they are connected with changes in sociabilities and social organization. In this framework, we propose to problematize the relationships between both phenomena (motherhood and participation in the world-of-work) seeking to describe, understand and understand practices of adult women focusing on their affects, emotions and sensibilities, in urban and rural contexts. In addition to these topics we find other points of view to analize sensibilities of women: those experiences in complex relationships with their husbands.

Therefore, in this session, we hope to reflect (based on literature reviews, theoretical analyses, and empirical studies departing from either qualitative or quantitative methodologies) on the connections between emotions, sensibilities, and affectivities that women at work, like wives and/or mothers express from their daily experiences.
