Space, Education and Inequalities. Lessons Learned and Ways to Move Forward
Tuesday, 12 July 2016: 10:45-12:15
Location: Hörsaal 47 (Main Building)
RC04 Sociology of Education (host committee) Language: Spanish and English
During the last two decades, there has been a growing interest on space, education and inequalities in different regions and countries. This session aims at promoting exchanges between researchers doing qualitative studies on space and education in urban and rural areas. We are interested in studies addressing the production, mitigation, and/or resistance to educational inequalities from a perspective that makes spaces and their historical, social and symbolic production visible. In particular, we will welcome contributions from ethnographic studies. Furthermore, we will also welcome papers mapping theoretical perspectives and findings that have been useful to unpack the intersections between space, education, and social inequalities.
Papers on all aspects of space, education and inequalities will be considered for inclusion in this session, but those with a focus on the following themes will be particularly welcomed:
- impacts of space and place on educational inequalities;
- formal and alternative spaces of education; spaces of education resistance;
- theoretical contributions to study space;
- educational policies and the creation of spaces of inclusion and exclusion.
